Kanye West Is Having A Textbook Written About His Cultural Impact On The World.
[HipHollywood] Kanye is probably happy to find out that he is having a textbook written about his cultural impact on the world.
Mr. West has spent the past couple of months doing interviews where he has stressed his importance as a influencer and genius and it looks like the academics have caught on. Julius Bailey, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Wittenberg University, has created a textbook of more than 300 pages on Kanye’s cultural impact on the world entitled The Cultural Impact of Kanye West. The book, which is scheduled to come out on March 6th, covers the “moral and social implications of West’s words, images and music in the broader context of Western civilization’s preconceived ideas.”
Bailey is known in academia for his work in hip-hop, he is the author of Jay-Z: Essays on Hip Hop’s Philosopher King (2011) and author Philosophy and Hip Hop: Ruminations on Postmodern Cultural Form (2014). The Cultural Impact of Kanye West is currently available via pre-order and is going for $80.

The ability of popular art to offer societal critiques and challenge received ideas has been recognized throughout history. Through rap and hip hop, composers, singers, and entertainers have recently provided a voice questioning and challenging the sanctioned view of the times. This book offers an in-depth reading of the works and cultural impact of Kanye West. Looking at the moral and social implications of West’s words, images, and music in the broader context of Western civilization’s preconceived ideas, the contributors consider how West both challenges religious and moral norms and propagates them.
