Nelson Mandela Funeral Set For December 15

Nelson Mandela’s funeral has been set for December 15.

Following a week of mourning, the  anti-apartheid revolutionary icon will be laid to rest at his ancestral village of Qunu in the Eastern Cape. According to reports, the funeral will take place under a large tent in the hills where Mandiba played as a kid.

A week of national mourning will include an open-air memorial service at the Johannesburg’s Soccer City stadium, the site of the 2010 World Cup final on Dec. 10, President Jacob Zuma said on Friday.

Zuma also said starting Wednesday, Mandela’s body will lie in state at the Union Buildings in Pretoria until the burial.

The former South African President died in his Johannesburg home on Thursday at 95, after losing a lengthy battle with a chronic lung illness.

“The sun will rise tomorrow, and the next day and the next. … It may not appear as bright as yesterday, but life will carry on,” retired Anglican bishop Desmond Tutu said on Friday.

RIP Nelson Mandela.
